Elon Musk’s X is experiencing its second large-scale outage this week. The site and app, formerly known as Twitter, are either not loading at all or glitching briefly before displaying error messages. The tracking site Down Detector shows nearly 80,000 reports of X being down starting around 10 a.m. Eastern Time, and the service remains down at the time of this writing.
This outage follows an earlier technical issue this week. It occurs as the platform faces criticism for problems with its integrated chatbot, Grok. The AI from Musk’s xAI has been fulfilling user requests to manipulate real photos of women and children into nonconsensual sexual and violent imagery.
When Musk took over Twitter in 2022, he laid off much of the staff. This sparked concerns that the site would not function normally or adequately monitor harmful content. While the site has largely remained running, there were also notable outages last year.
TechCrunch has reached out to X for comment.
