WhatsApp is introducing a range of new features and updates. A significant addition is an AI-powered tool that generates suggested replies based on your conversations. The Meta-owned platform is also launching other improvements, including a new method to free up storage space, the ability to touch up photos with Meta AI, and more.
A major update is coming to the “Writing Help” feature, which assists users in drafting messages. Originally launched last August, Writing Help already allows users to rephrase, proofread, or adjust the tone of their messages. WhatsApp states this latest update is designed to help users get their message just right. The company likely hopes people will use this in-app technology instead of external tools. Some users may prefer authentic conversations with friends and family over AI-generated messages. WhatsApp claims that all chats remain private even when using the Writing Help feature. To access it, users tap the chat bar, select the stickers icon in the typing field, and then tap the pencil with sparkles icon that indicates an AI feature.
Regarding storage management, WhatsApp can now help users find and delete large files directly within any chat. This allows users to remove unwanted items without deleting entire conversations. For example, someone could choose to clear only media files from a chat while keeping the full text history.
The company also announced that users can now use Meta AI to touch up photos directly in a chat. This enables actions like removing a distracting object from an image, changing the background, or applying a new style.
Additionally, WhatsApp now supports moving chat history from iOS to Android, as well as between devices on the same platform. Plus, users on iOS can have two WhatsApp accounts logged in simultaneously, a feature already available on Android.
Stickers on WhatsApp are receiving an update as well. The app will now suggest specific stickers as users type emojis, allowing them to swap an emoji for a sticker.
These new features are rolling out now and will be available to all users soon.
