On Wednesday, the UK’s National Crime Agency announced the arrest of a man in connection with a ransomware attack. This attack has caused significant delays and disruptions at several European airports since the weekend.
The hack targeted check-in systems provided by Collins Aerospace on Friday. It led to operational issues at airports in Brussels, Berlin, Dublin, and London’s Heathrow. These disruptions continued until Tuesday.
The National Crime Agency did not release the man’s name but confirmed he is in his forties. He was arrested in the southern county of West Sussex on Tuesday and has since been released on conditional bail.
Paul Foster, the deputy director and head of the NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit, stated that while the arrest is a positive step, the investigation is in its early stages and remains ongoing. An NCA spokesperson confirmed the agency had no further information to add beyond the press release.
