Uber Eats is partnering with the sidewalk delivery robot company Starship Technologies to deliver food in the United Kingdom. The service will begin later this year.
The companies will launch the service in the Leeds and Sheffield areas starting in December. Initially, deliveries will come from a selection of merchants, with plans to expand from there. Uber has stated that the service will grow to additional European markets in 2026, followed by the United States in 2027.
This collaboration with Starship is the latest in a series of partnerships Uber has formed with autonomous vehicle companies. However, Starship is not the first sidewalk robot company to work with Uber Eats. Uber’s food delivery service has used robots from Serve Robotics for several years in the U.S. Uber also began using Avride’s sidewalk robots earlier this year.
Starship Technologies reports that it has nearly 3,000 of its six-wheeled delivery robots operating worldwide. These robots are active in more than 270 different locations. The robots typically complete deliveries in under 30 minutes and travel within a two-mile radius.
