Uber and Lyft to test Baidu robotaxis in London next year, joining Waymo

Uber and Lyft will begin testing Baidu’s Apollo Go robotaxis in London starting in 2026. They will join other companies like Waymo and the local startup Wayve, which will also have autonomous vehicles operating in the city next year.

Lyft CEO David Risher stated that his company will commence testing once it receives the necessary regulatory approval from local authorities. Lyft plans to eventually scale its fleet to hundreds of Baidu’s electric RT6 SUVs, though no specific timeline for a commercial launch was provided.

Uber announced its own plans to test the vehicles in London next year as part of a separate deal with Baidu, which was originally announced in July. The company expects to start its testing program in the first half of 2026.

These dual London deployments represent the latest in a series of robotaxi partnerships. Both Uber and Lyft have forged agreements with Baidu, Waymo, and several other companies to establish and expand their autonomous vehicle operations in cities across the globe.
