President Donald Trump declared on Friday that Microsoft should fire Lisa Monaco, the company’s president of global affairs. In a post on Truth Social, Trump cited her previous roles as a senior national security aide under Barack Obama and as a deputy attorney general under the Biden administration. He described her as being associated with what he termed weaponization and lawfare. Trump stated that Monaco’s current position gives her access to highly sensitive information, which he finds unacceptable.
As Trump noted, Monaco has worked for both the Obama and Biden administrations. Earlier this year, Trump rescinded Monaco’s security clearance through an order that also did the same for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, and members of the Biden family.
TechCrunch has reached out to Microsoft for comment. Monaco joined the company in May, taking on a role that oversees cybersecurity policy and the company’s relationships with world governments.
Far-right activist and Trump ally Laura Loomer has repeatedly criticized Microsoft for hiring Monaco in posts on X. In her posts, Loomer also complained that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was born in India and accused him of disgraceful behavior. Following Trump’s post, Loomer quoted it and called for the cancellation of all Microsoft’s government contracts.
This is not the first time Trump has targeted a tech executive since returning to office. He previously demanded the immediate resignation of Intel President Lip-Bu Tan over alleged conflicts of interest. However, after Intel gave the government a ten percent stake in exchange for funding that had been committed by the Biden administration, Trump later described Tan as a highly respected chief executive officer.
