Todoist’s app now lets you add tasks to your to-do list by speaking to its AI

Perhaps you do not need an AI smart ring to manage your tasks. Doist, the company behind the popular cross-platform to-do app Todoist, has launched a new AI feature called Todoist Ramble. This “voice-to-tasks” tool lets you describe your tasks using natural, everyday language.

True to its name, Ramble can take unstructured, meandering speech and transform it into organized tasks. It captures details you mention, such as project names, deadlines, priorities, estimated duration, and assignees.

The concept addresses a common situation: people often think of tasks while on the move, but stopping to type a note on a phone can be inconvenient. With Ramble, you still take out your phone, but instead of typing, you simply tap the Ramble icon and start speaking. The app updates in real time with the task information and can even respond to edits as you speak. For example, you can say corrections like, “Actually, make that Thursday,” or signal completion by saying, “That’s all.”

Ramble is built on large language models and is part of a suite of AI features called Todoist Assist. It uses Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model via Vertex AI for real-time speech understanding. As you speak, the audio streams to the back end where the model transcribes the speech, identifies tasks, dates, and other details to generate your to-dos. The company states that the audio is not stored or used for AI training and that the app is SOC2 Type II certified.

This AI functionality mirrors trends in hardware AI devices that transcribe speech into notes and reminders. For instance, Amazon’s Bee wearable uses AI to create notes and suggest tasks. Other devices, like those from Plaud, can take meeting notes and extract highlights. There is also growing interest in AI-powered smart rings, such as the Stream ring from Sandbar or Pebble’s upcoming Index 01 ring. These allow users to press a button on the ring to add items to a to-do list or make notes in a companion app.

Before its launch, Ramble was beta tested with approximately 150,000 active testers in the Todoist Experimental group. In the first three weeks, around 76,000 testers completed roughly 290,000 Ramble sessions on desktop and mobile. The feature entered public beta testing in November.

The company reports that task creation success rates improved from about 40% in October to approximately 62% by December. They also claim the feature drove upgrades, with new users on the entry-level plan upgrading at a rate roughly five times higher after using Ramble.

Todoist Ramble is now available to all users on iOS, Android, desktop, and web, and supports 38 languages. Users on the Beginner plan can access the feature with a limited number of sessions per month, while Pro and Business paid plans offer unlimited sessions. For quick access, the feature can be used via a Home Screen or Lock Screen shortcut on iOS and through app shortcuts, widgets, and quick settings tiles on Android.
