TikTok announced on Thursday the launch of a new feature called Bulletin Board. This tool allows brands and creators to share public, one-to-many messages with their followers. Bulletin Board is essentially TikTok’s version of the broadcast channels feature that launched on Instagram in 2023.
Similar to Instagram’s feature, only the creator of a Bulletin Board can post messages. Followers are limited to interacting by leaving emoji reactions. The new feature supports posts containing text, images, and video.
This tool is rolling out to creators who are at least 18 years old and have a minimum of 50,000 followers. The idea behind Bulletin Board is to help creators and companies build community by sharing news, updates, and exclusive content directly with their audience. Instead of posting updates through a Story or a regular post, creators can now share them on their Bulletin Board. The feature also allows accounts to promote content by sending it straight to their followers.
The launch was expected, as TikTok was spotted testing the feature earlier in June. During the beta phase, artists and musicians used Bulletin Board to share newly released music and invite followers to pre-save upcoming releases. Other entities like People magazine and Paris Saint-Germain also used the feature to share news and updates.
TikTok stated that all content on Bulletin Board must adhere to its Community Guidelines, which are enforced using technology and human moderators. The platform’s standard safety tools for muting, blocking, and reporting users and content are available within the feature to help maintain safe and positive communities.
Creators can start a Bulletin Board by going to their inbox and selecting the appropriate option. They can control the visibility of their Bulletin Board with a “Show on profile” setting and are able to choose a name for it.
To join a Bulletin Board, users can click on the Bulletin Board’s name located under a creator’s bio on their profile. After a follower chooses to join a creator’s Bulletin Board, they will receive notifications in their inbox whenever that creator makes a new post.
