Threads now lets you approve and filter your replies

Threads, the social media platform from Meta that rivals X, continues to release new features quickly. Following the recent introduction of communities and disappearing ghost posts, the app has now launched new tools to give users more control over their conversations.

One major new feature is reply approvals. This allows you to decide which replies from other users will appear on your posts before they are visible to anyone else. While Threads already offered tools to limit replies to specific groups like people you follow or mention, this new feature lets you keep replies open to everyone. It helps prevent discussions from being derailed by unwanted comments while still allowing open public conversation.

The company explains that these tools help users set the tone for their conversations and provide more choice. This approach balances the desire for public engagement with the poster’s control over the discussion.

In addition, Threads is introducing new Activity feed filters. These filters make it easier to view replies from people you follow or those that include mentions. They join existing filtering options such as Verified, Quotes, and Reposts.

Meta recently announced during its third-quarter earnings call that Threads has reached 150 million daily active users. This is an increase from the over 100 million daily users reported in December 2024. In August, the company also stated the network had surpassed 400 million monthly active users.

As the app’s user base expands, Meta is moving quickly to monetize this growth. The company has already rolled out ads on the platform globally and is now preparing to launch video ads.

Threads continues to develop more features for its users. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced this week that the platform is testing new controls. These will allow users to adjust their algorithm by adding and removing topics based on their personal interests.
