Threads now has more than 400 million monthly active users

Just two years since its launch as a competitor to Twitter, now known as X, Meta’s Threads has surpassed 400 million monthly active users. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced this milestone, stating that the platform has grown significantly since its inception. What began as an ambitious idea to rival Twitter has now become a thriving space for open conversations and diverse perspectives. Mosseri expressed gratitude to the community for shaping Threads into what it is today, while also hinting at more developments to come.

This achievement reflects steady growth, with Threads adding 50 million monthly users in the past quarter alone. Earlier in April, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the platform had reached over 350 million monthly active users. In comparison, X reportedly boasts more than 600 million monthly active users, according to former CEO Linda Yaccarino.

Recent data from market intelligence firm Similarweb indicates that Threads is closing the gap with X in terms of daily app users on mobile devices. In June 2025, Threads recorded 115.1 million daily active users on iOS and Android, marking a 127.8% increase year-over-year. Meanwhile, X saw 132 million daily active users, representing a 15.2% decline compared to the previous year.

However, X still leads in worldwide daily web visits, with 145.8 million average visits in June, while Threads had only 6.9 million. Despite this, Threads continues to expand its feature set, introducing direct messaging, fediverse integrations, custom feeds, AI-powered enhancements, and other updates over the past year. These improvements have contributed to its rapid growth and increasing user engagement.
