The FBI is investigating a hacker suspected of publishing several video games laced with malware on the popular PC games store Steam. In an announcement seeking potential victims, the agency listed games suspected of being developed by the same cybercriminal over the last two years. These games, hosted on Steam but embedded with malware, include BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse, DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova.
This is not the first time hackers have been able to host malware on the Valve-owned marketplace. Last year, hackers published several games on Steam that contained malware. The games were functional, though somewhat rudimentary. Their true purpose was to act as a Trojan horse, tricking gamers into installing malware on their computers. Steam removed the games, but an unknown number of people were infected in the meantime.
Valve and the FBI did not respond to requests for comment.
