Texas AG sues Roblox, accusing it of prioritizing ‘pixel pedophiles’ over childsafety

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced late on Thursday that he is suing the online gaming platform Roblox over child safety concerns. He accuses the company of deceiving parents about the dangers of its platform.

In a statement, Paxton alleged that Roblox chooses to prioritize what he called pixel pedophiles and profit over the safety of children. He stated the platform has become a breeding ground for predators. Paxton said that platforms like Roblox cannot be allowed to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators and that the company must do more to protect kids. He warned that any corporation enabling child abuse will face the full force of the law.

This lawsuit follows similar cases by the attorneys general of Louisiana and Kentucky, as well as multiple cases in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania against Roblox. The company has been repeatedly criticized for not implementing adequate child safety measures and for exposing minors to dangers like grooming, explicit content, and violent or abusive material.

In light of such cases and investigations, governments worldwide have been introducing stricter laws and regulations. These new rules require social platforms to verify users’ ages, such as the UK’s Online Safety Act and Mississippi’s age-assurance law. Other states, including Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Virginia, are also considering similar legislation.

In response, Roblox has added a range of safety features. These include an age-estimation system that scans users’ selfies to estimate age, standardized content and maturity labels, and an AI system to detect early signals of child endangerment. The company has also introduced new safeguards for teenagers, enhanced content controls, and offers parental controls and tools to restrict communications. Technology is also in place to detect when many users are breaking its rules.

Roblox reported 151.5 million daily active users as of September 30, 2025.

The company stated it has implemented industry-leading protocols to protect users and address malicious activity. A spokesperson expressed disappointment with the lawsuit, saying the attorney general chose to file based on misrepresentations and sensationalized claims instead of working collaboratively.

Roblox maintains it is deeply committed to child safety. The company says its policies are purposefully stricter than those on many other platforms. It prohibits sharing images and videos in chat, uses filters to block the exchange of personal information, and has trained teams and automated tools that continuously monitor communications to detect and remove harmful content.
