Orange, a French telecommunications giant and one of the largest phone providers in the world, announced on Monday that it was the victim of an unspecified cyberattack.
In the announcement, the company stated that it detected a cyberattack on one of its information systems on July 25. It proceeded to isolate potentially affected services to minimize any impact.
The isolation of affected systems caused disruptions to some of the company’s platforms, as well as business customers and public sector services, primarily in France. Orange assured that the solutions being implemented would gradually restore services by Wednesday. The company also emphasized that there is no evidence suggesting any internal or customer data was exfiltrated.
Orange did not respond to requests for comment regarding the nature of the cyberattack or whether it has the technical means to detect data exfiltration.
The company mentioned it is engaging with affected customers and has filed a complaint with relevant authorities, though specifics were not provided. Under GDPR, companies in Europe must notify local data protection authorities within three days of a suspected data breach.
Orange serves 291 million customers worldwide across 26 countries and employs 127,000 people.
