TechCrunch is heading to Tokyo — and bringing the Startup Battlefield with it

TechCrunch is partnering with SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026, Asia’s largest global innovation conference, happening April 27–29 at Tokyo Big Sight. Our Startup Battlefield program manager, Isabelle Johannessen, will be a judge for the flagship SusHi Tech Challenge pitch competition. The Grand Prix winner gets automatic entry into the TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield Top 200.

Now in its fourth year, SusHi Tech Tokyo (Sustainable High City Tech Tokyo) is organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This massive event expects 60,000 attendees, 750 startup exhibitors from 60 countries, and over 10,000 business meetings. It focuses on four key domains: AI, Robotics, Resilience, and Entertainment.

The conference features 62 corporate partners like Sony and Google, and speakers from Nvidia, AWS, and more. Beyond the expo, city leaders from 49 global cities will convene for a sustainability summit. The experience also includes evening networking events and cultural performances.

The pitch competition drew 820 applications. Twenty semifinalists compete, with one winner receiving ¥10,000,000 and the TechCrunch Disrupt entry.
