Target joins OpenAI’s growing list of retail apps

OpenAI is expanding further into the retail sector. Target is preparing to launch a new ChatGPT-powered shopping application in the coming weeks. This development follows OpenAI’s recent initiative to incorporate dedicated retail applications into ChatGPT, which already includes partners like Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow.

This move is part of a broader effort by OpenAI to advance AI-driven commerce. The company is introducing new products such as Instant Checkout, which enables users to complete purchases directly within conversations with retailers like Etsy and Shopify.

The Target application within ChatGPT will enter a beta phase next week. It will allow customers to ask for product ideas, browse items, build multi-item baskets, shop for food, and complete the checkout process.

This new application strengthens the existing enterprise partnership between OpenAI and Target. Target will now deploy ChatGPT Enterprise to its 18,000 headquarters employees. The technology will be used for improving supply chain forecasting and streamlining various store operations.

Target also plans to further integrate OpenAI’s models into its digital tools. These tools support a wide range of functions, including employee support, customer service, AI-driven shopping assistants, and personalized gift finders.
