Spotify’s latest feature lets you transfer playlists from other services

Spotify is making it easier for users to switch from other streaming services. On Thursday, the company announced an integration with TuneMyMusic, a tool that can transfer playlists from other streaming services directly into a user’s Spotify library.

This new feature is now rolling out to all Spotify users. It can be found in the Your Library section of the Spotify mobile app. To use it, you scroll to the bottom of the page and tap on the new option to import your music. You then follow the prompts to connect with the service. After that, you choose the platform you want to transfer playlists from, and they will appear in your Spotify library.

It is important to note that this process does not delete the original playlists. It only copies them over to Spotify. At launch, TuneMyMusic supports transferring playlists from services like Amazon Music, Apple Music, Deezer, Pandora, SoundCloud, Tidal, and YouTube Music.

The addition of this feature increases the competition in the streaming market while also serving as a win for data portability. One of Spotify’s top competitors, Apple Music, already offers a way for iPhone and iPad users to transfer their saved music and playlists from other services. This feature is built directly into the iOS and iPadOS Settings app and is also available within the Android version of the Apple Music app. Similarly, YouTube Music Premium users can import their playlists from other services, including Spotify.

For customers thinking of switching to Spotify, having this transfer feature built directly into the app could encourage them to make the change. This is a particularly useful perk because the online version of TuneMyMusic only offers to transfer five hundred tracks for free. For unlimited transfers, users would normally have to upgrade to a paid plan.

Spotify is not sharing the terms of its deal with TuneMyMusic, but it is likely a win for both companies. The arrangement could bring more customers to Spotify while TuneMyMusic gains a large client.
