Spotify is introducing a new feature that allows users to follow venues. This will provide updates and details on concerts scheduled to take place at those locations. Followed venues are saved in your library, where you can browse event calendars, view information on scheduled concerts, and see announcements. Users can also filter upcoming shows at these venues by music genre.
The company is updating its live event feed daily instead of weekly to provide the latest event updates more frequently. A demonstration of the feature shows the venue page where you can see upcoming shows, announcements, and filter events by different music genres.
As before, users can tap on upcoming shows to book tickets through the listed ticketing partner. Spotify experimented with selling tickets directly in 2022, but has not discussed expanding that business since. The company currently partners with ticketing platforms like Live Nation and Ticketmaster to sell tickets directly from an artist’s page.
Earlier this year, the company released a new weekly updated playlist called “Concerts Near You.” This playlist lists thirty songs from artists performing around a user’s location, along with details about their next show.
Spotify’s rivals are also focusing on improving live event discovery on their platforms. In February, SoundCloud partnered with Ticketmaster and Live Nation to let artists list upcoming shows on their pages.
