Snapchat will now let your friends know you’ve made it home safe

Snapchat is introducing a new feature called “Home Safe,” designed to let friends and family know when you’ve arrived home safely after an outing. The social network announced the feature on Thursday.

To use Home Safe, users must first set their home location by tapping their Bitmoji on Snap Map and selecting “My Home.” When heading out, they can notify a friend by opening the conversation, tapping the Map icon, and selecting the Home Safe button. Once they arrive home, the friend will automatically receive an alert in the chat.

Snapchat emphasizes that alerts can only be sent to friends who already have access to your location. Since location sharing on Snap Map is off by default, no one can see your location or receive a Home Safe alert unless you choose to enable it.

The feature is designed to provide peace of mind in various situations, whether returning from a first date, a crowded concert, or a weekend getaway.

This update follows Snapchat’s recent announcement that Snap Map now has over 400 million monthly active users. Originally launched in 2017, Snap Map allowed users to view friends’ locations and explore public snaps worldwide. Over time, it has expanded to include features like discovering local hotspots and activities.

Separately, TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 is set to take place in San Francisco from October 27-29, 2025. The event will feature industry leaders from companies like Netflix, ElevenLabs, Wayve, and Sequoia Capital, offering insights to fuel startup growth.
