Snap has announced a major new partnership for its AR glasses subsidiary, Specs. The company is teaming up with chipmaker Qualcomm to power the upcoming wearable. Specs will utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR platforms, which are designed for augmented and virtual reality devices. This multi-year agreement aims to develop on-device AI, advanced graphics, and multiuser digital experiences. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel stated this partnership provides a strong foundation, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. The release of these consumer glasses is anticipated later this year. Snap has been developing AR glasses for over a decade, with the last consumer version launched in 2019. Since 2024, the glasses have been available only to developers, allowing Snap to build a software ecosystem ahead of the public launch.
