Silicon Valley veterans including Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI President Greg Brockman are investing over one hundred million dollars into a network of political-action committees. This new network, named Leading the Future, will advocate against strict AI regulations in the upcoming midterm elections.
The pro-AI super-PAC network intends to use campaign donations and digital advertising to promote favorable AI regulation. It will also work to oppose political candidates the group believes would stifle the industry’s growth.
Both Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI previously supported an effort to implement a ten-year moratorium on states creating their own AI regulations. Although that proposed ban was ultimately struck down, the AI industry continues to fight against what it describes as a problematic patchwork of regulations. The industry argues that such fragmented rules would slow innovation and risk the United States losing the AI race to China.
The group plans to model its strategy on the pro-crypto super-PAC network Fairshake, which successfully helped secure a victory for Donald Trump. The new network will generally align with the policies of White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks.
