Sierra’s Bret Taylor says the era of clicking buttons is over

Bret Taylor, CEO of Sierra, believes the way we interact with software is about to change. His startup builds AI agents for customer service. Last month, Sierra launched Ghostwriter, a tool that lets users describe a task in natural language. It then autonomously creates and deploys a specialized agent to complete it. Taylor argues this will replace complex, rarely-used enterprise software interfaces. He says users will simply speak or type their needs instead of learning intricate systems.

Taylor, formerly co-CEO of Salesforce, shared that Sierra implemented an agent for Nordstrom in just four weeks. The company recently reported reaching $100 million in annual revenue and was last valued at $10 billion. However, experts note current AI agents are not fully autonomous. Many, including Sierra, rely on engineers to constantly update and fine-tune the agents for customers.
