Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki recently appeared on The New York Times’ Hard Fork podcast to talk about the platform’s new age verification feature. The discussion centered on this new system, which will require all users to submit a face scan if they wish to access Roblox’s messaging functions.
As the interview continued, the hosts asked multiple questions focused on child safety. When questioned about a report that claimed the company had prioritized growth over safety, Baszucki appeared to grow frustrated with the line of questioning. His response was, “Fun. Let’s keep going down this.”
Later, when co-host Kevin Roose suggested that improving its AI models was one of the best ways for Roblox to enhance child safety, Baszucki replied, “Good, so you’re aligning with what we did. High-five.”
He then added that he had come on the podcast because he was a fan and had expected to discuss a wider range of topics. Baszucki noted that while he was willing to talk about age verification for an hour if that was what his public relations team had arranged, he had hoped to talk about everything.
