Quora’s AI platform Poe announced on Thursday the release of an API that enables developers to integrate various AI models or bots into their applications. The API operates under Poe’s existing point-based subscription system, eliminating the need for a separate fee. Each API call deducts a set number of points from the user’s plan. For example, generating a low-quality image via GPT-4o at a 1:1 aspect ratio and 1024 x 1024 resolution costs 328 points.
Poe currently offers several subscription tiers. The $4.99 per month plan provides 10,000 points daily, while the $19.99 plan includes 1 million points monthly. Higher tiers include the $49.99 plan (2.5 million points), the $99.99 plan (5 million points), and the $249.99 plan (12.5 million points). Developers can also purchase additional points at a rate of $30 per 1 million tokens, with no fixed package requirements.
The API supports tools like Cursor, Cline, Continue, and Roo, as well as any applications compatible with OpenAI’s chat completion APIs. Poe grants access to over 100 models spanning text, voice, image, and video generation. Notable models include Imagen 4, GPT Image 1, Flux Kontext, Seedream 3.0, Veo 3, Runway Gen 4 Turbo, Kling 2.1, ElevenLabs, and Lyria.
Poe’s product lead for creators and developers, Gareth Jones, shared that the company is working on allowing developers to deploy private bots via the API. Improvements to key management for API users are also under consideration.
Beyond the API, Poe provides consumer-facing tools. Earlier this year, the platform introduced features for users to build and share custom AI-powered apps. It also offers templates for creating server bots, prompt bots, and image generation bots.
Currently, developers must manually select and manage models. However, Jones mentioned that Poe may introduce budget management features in the future, depending on developer feedback.
