Eric Migicovsky, the original creator of the Pebble smartwatch, showcased new designs for the upcoming watch on Wednesday, now known as the Pebble Time 2. Although the company initially branded its new watches as the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 when announcing its return to the market in March, Migicovsky confirmed they have since regained the Pebble trademark. As a result, the new watches will be called the Pebble 2 Duo and the Pebble Time 2.
Migicovsky’s company, Core Devices, had previously shared early concepts for the watches in March, but this week revealed the final design for the Pebble Time 2. The industrial design has been updated, and several new features have been added.
The Time 2 will debut in four colors, though the exact shades are still undecided. Pebble buyers will have a say in the final selection later on. New additions include a multicolor RGB LED backlight, a second microphone for potential environmental noise cancellation, a compass sensor, and a screw-mounted back cover. The watch will feature stainless steel on both the front and back, along with stainless steel buttons similar to the older Pebble Time Steel.
Previously announced specifications remain unchanged. The watch will include a 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper display, a touch screen, a quick-release 22 mm watch strap, a flat hardened glass lens, and an estimated 30-day battery life. It will also feature a heart rate monitor, step and sleep tracking, a speaker, a linear actuator motor for vibration, and a waterproof rating, though the exact level is still being finalized.
The Pebble Time 2 is available for preorder at $225. It will pair with smartphones via Bluetooth, enabling notifications, music control, and internet connectivity. The company also mentioned that those who preordered the Core 2 Duo can upgrade to the Pebble Time 2 while keeping their place in line. Customers should not cancel their original order but instead wait for an email survey link in the coming weeks, which will provide the upgrade option.
