Nintendo raising original Switch console prices due to ‘market conditions’

Nintendo has announced a price increase for its original Nintendo Switch game consoles, effective August 3. The company cited “market conditions” as the reason for the adjustment, which likely refers to recent tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump.

The price hike affects the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and select accessories. Other products, including certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, select amiibo, and the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, will also see higher prices.

The exact new pricing has not yet been disclosed. Currently, the original Nintendo Switch sells for $299.99, while the OLED model is priced at $349.99. Nintendo has not ruled out future price increases for the Nintendo Switch 2, which retails for $450.

In its announcement, Nintendo stated that pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, physical and digital games, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships will remain unchanged for now. However, the company noted that adjustments may be necessary in the future.

Earlier on Friday, Nintendo reported its fiscal first-quarter earnings, revealing that sales of the Switch 2 have reached 5.82 million units since its June 5 release.

To avoid tariffs, Nintendo previously shifted much of its production from China to Vietnam. However, recent changes to reciprocal tariffs now extend to Vietnam as well.
