Netflix launches a standalone app for kids’ games

Netflix has launched a new standalone app for kids called Netflix Playground. It offers an ever-growing library of games for children ages eight and under, featuring characters from popular shows like Peppa Pig and Sesame Street. The app is included with a Netflix subscription, has no ads or in-app purchases, and works offline. It is available now in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with a worldwide rollout on April 28 for iOS and Android. This move expands Netflix’s kids entertainment, though the company has scaled back some gaming ambitions after earlier titles struggled and it closed several game studios. Netflix continues to explore gaming on TV and cloud-based play.
