Netflix is launching a new feature that will allow users to interact with live content through voting. The option will debut with the premiere of the live-streamed talent show “Star Search” on January 20.
Subscribers can vote by either selecting from a multiple-choice menu or rating a performance on a scale of one to five stars. Votes can be cast using a TV remote or the Netflix app.
The feature will work globally, with the platform tallying votes in real-time. Viewers will have a limited time to vote during the live broadcast. If you watch the show later, you cannot participate in the voting.
Netflix began testing live voting in August 2025 with “Dinner Time Live with David Chang.” At TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, the company’s CTO, Elizabeth Stone, confirmed plans to launch the feature widely. She described it as an early example of making content more interactive, allowing subscribers to feel part of the story and influence the storyline.
Netflix has heavily invested in live content with shows like “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney” and “Dinner Time Live with David Chang,” along with sports broadcasts including NFL specials and WWE. In October, the company launched interactive games for smart TVs. The introduction of live voting merges these two initiatives of live streaming and interactivity.
