Microsoft says Azure affected after cables cut in the Red Sea

Microsoft reported on Saturday that customers using its Azure cloud platform might experience increased latency. This issue occurred after multiple undersea cables were cut in the Red Sea.

In a status update, the company stated that network traffic passing through the Middle East or with destinations in Asia and Europe had been affected. Microsoft did not specify who was responsible for cutting the cables or provide a reason for the incident.

The company noted that repairing undersea fiber cuts can be a lengthy process. It committed to continuously monitoring the situation and optimizing traffic routing to minimize impact on customers during the repairs.

By Saturday evening, Microsoft announced that it was no longer detecting any issues with its Azure service.
