Microsoft 365 hit by outage, preventing access to emails and files

An ongoing Microsoft outage is preventing enterprise customers from accessing their email inboxes, files, meetings, and other Microsoft cloud services.

The technology giant stated around 2:30 p.m. ET that the outage was caused by a portion of service infrastructure in North America that is not processing traffic as expected. Microsoft did not provide specific details on the cause but confirmed it is working to restore the infrastructure to a healthy state to achieve recovery.

According to the company, the outage affects the Exchange Online email service, the ability to search files within SharePoint Online or OneDrive, and the creation of chats, meetings, or adding members in its Teams video meeting platform.

The disruption also prevents administrators from accessing their Microsoft Purview and Defender XDR security dashboards and their administrative centers.

We will reach out to Microsoft for comment as soon as our own email, which is hosted by Microsoft, returns to normal.
