Meta to spend tens of millions on pro-AI super PAC

Meta plans to launch a super PAC to support California candidates who favor a light-touch approach to artificial intelligence regulation, according to a report from Politico. This development coincides with other major Silicon Valley players, including Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI’s Greg Brockman, pledging $100 million for a new pro-AI super PAC.

The company intends to pour tens of millions of dollars into its new group, which is named Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across California. Brian Rice, Meta’s Vice President of public policy and the head of the new PAC, has stated that the regulatory environment in Sacramento could stifle innovation, block AI progress, and put California’s technology leadership at risk.

Meta’s lobbying efforts have previously targeted specific legislation. Earlier this year, the company focused on state senator Scott Wiener’s SB-53 bill. That legislation would require AI firms to publish safety and security protocols and to issue reports whenever safety incidents occur. Last year, Meta was also involved in efforts that helped defeat the Kids Online Safety Act, a bill that was widely expected to pass.

The social media giant has already donated to various down-ballot candidates from both major political parties. The formation of this new super PAC signals a clear intent to expand its influence into statewide elections, including the upcoming governor’s race in 2026.
