Lucid blames dip in Q1 sales on seat supplier issue

Lucid Group ended 2025 on a high note, doubling its EV production and seeing a 55% sales increase. However, the first quarter of 2026 told a different story. The company sold 3,093 vehicles, a 42% drop from the previous quarter. This decline was not due to demand, but a supplier issue. A problem with second-row seats halted Gravity SUV deliveries for 29 days and led to a recall of over 4,000 vehicles due to improperly welded seat belt anchors. A company spokesperson confirmed the supplier’s unapproved change caused the sales stop. Lucid states the issue is now resolved and reaffirms its 2026 production target of 25,000 to 27,000 vehicles, which could be a 47% increase from 2025. This comes as Lucid prepares to launch a new $50,000 mass-market vehicle, putting it in direct competition with Rivian, Tesla, and Chevrolet.
