Life360, the family safety app, is expanding into the pet technology market with its new Pet GPS tracking device. This device is designed to attach to a pet’s collar or harness, offering owners peace of mind through real-time location tracking for their dogs and cats.
The launch of the Pet GPS represents a natural progression for Life360. This move follows the company’s acquisition of the tracking device company Tile in 2021. Since that acquisition, Life360 has integrated Tile’s item-finding technology into its own app, which already included the option to assign a Tile tracker to a pet.
Priced at forty-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents, the Pet GPS is the most expensive device in Life360’s product lineup. It includes several features that may justify the cost for pet owners.
Key features of the device include geofencing, which creates virtual boundaries and sends alerts if a pet leaves a designated safe zone. An escape alert is also triggered if a pet runs away. Owners can leverage the Pet Finder Network to alert the nearby community about a lost pet. When an alert is issued, the app shares important details with other members, such as the pet’s name, photograph, breed, and emergency contact information. Life360 states its network includes over eighty-eight million members, creating a large community to assist in finding a missing animal.
The pet tracker uses a combination of cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth technologies to provide accurate location data. The location updates every two to four seconds when the pet is away from home.
Other helpful features include a built-in light that can be activated through the app to locate a pet in the dark. The device also has a chime function, allowing owners to call their pets when needed. With an IP68 rating, the device is water-resistant, dust-proof, and resistant to pet bites.
The device includes a charger and has a battery life that lasts up to fourteen days. A Bluetooth Reserve Mode can extend the battery life, keeping the pet locatable for up to six months.
Life360’s Pet GPS is available in three colors: pink, navy, and black. It can be purchased in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand through the Life360 website. To access all of the device’s features, users must have either a Gold subscription, which costs fourteen dollars and ninety-nine cents per month, or a Platinum subscription, which costs twenty-four dollars and ninety-nine cents per month.
