Kim Kardashian says ChatGPT is her ‘frenemy’

Celebrities are often seen as being just like us, but sometimes their experiences are uniquely modern. In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Kim Kardashian, who has been studying to become a lawyer, discussed her toxic friendship with the artificial intelligence program ChatGPT. She admitted that she has failed law exams after the program provided her with false information.

Kardashian explained her process, stating that she uses ChatGPT for legal advice by taking pictures of her questions and uploading them. She reported that the answers are always wrong and have caused her to fail tests. She described getting mad and yelling at the program, blaming it for her failures.

This happens because ChatGPT is prone to a phenomenon known as hallucinations. This means the large language model will sometimes create fake answers rather than admit it does not know how to respond. The technology is not programmed to understand correct information. Instead, it is trained on a massive amount of data and is designed to predict the most likely response, which may not be factually accurate. This issue has impacted real legal professionals, as some lawyers have been sanctioned for using ChatGPT to write legal briefs that cited non-existent cases.

Kardashian said she attempts to appeal to the program’s emotions after it lets her down, though this is a futile effort since ChatGPT does not have feelings. She recounted asking it how it feels about making her fail, to which it replied that the experience is teaching her to trust her own instincts.

While ChatGPT may not have feelings, that does not mean people lack feelings about it. Kardashian shared that she frequently takes screenshots of her interactions and sends them to her group chat, expressing her disbelief at the way the program speaks to her.
