On Thursday, WordPress launched a new Claude connector. This tool allows site owners to share back-end data directly with Anthropic’s Claude chatbot system. Users maintain full control, selecting the specific data to share and having the ability to revoke access at any time.
Importantly, Claude receives read-only access. This means the chatbot can view information but cannot alter anything within a user’s content management system. Last year, however, WordPress indicated that future updates to its MCP integration would eventually provide “write” access. This would presumably allow users to perform editorial tasks directly through a connected chatbot.
Once Claude is linked to an account, users can ask it a wide range of questions about the shared site data. Examples include requesting summaries of monthly web traffic or conducting analysis to identify posts with low user engagement.
WordPress has also supplied a list of template prompts to help users get started. These prompts cover functions like comment management, such as asking to see pending comments, and plugin management, like inquiring which plugins are installed on a primary site. Other examples include asking which site gets the most traffic or which posts are generating the most discussion.
