iPhone 17 Air will be eSIM only worldwide

On Tuesday at its annual hardware event, Apple announced its new thin iPhone 17 Air. The company revealed that this device will feature eSIM support only across the entire world.

Apple managed to cram a significant amount of technology into a design that is just 5.5mm thick. This achievement came at the expense of the physical SIM tray, which has been completely removed.

The company had previously opted to remove physical SIMs in favor of eSIMs for iPhones sold in the United States starting in 2022. During the keynote, Apple stated that they pioneered eSIM technology years ago and that it has now become an industry standard.

Apple explained that compared to a decades-old piece of plastic, eSIM is much easier for customers to use. It also offers better security and saves precious space inside the iPhone. The company also highlighted that eSIM is a great feature for travel.
