Intel is building a handheld gaming platform including a dedicated chip

Intel is strengthening its commitment to gaming hardware with a new platform designed for portable gaming devices. The company’s vice president, Daniel Rogers, announced this initiative at CES, explaining that the platform will include both hardware and software. It will be based on Intel’s upcoming Panther Lake processors, which are part of the Core Series 3 family initially announced last year and now beginning to appear in new PCs.

This future platform will specifically feature a chip built for handheld gaming devices. This detail was reported and subsequently confirmed by industry sources. The Panther Lake chips represent a significant manufacturing advancement for Intel, as they are the company’s first processors built on its new 18A production process, which began in 2025.

Intel has a long history in the gaming industry, having produced chips for gaming PCs since the 1990s. The company deepened its gaming investments in 2022 with the launch of its Intel Arc graphics cards. Entering the handheld gaming market now is a notable strategic move, as this segment is currently led by rival AMD.

AMD also made gaming announcements at CES, unveiling a new processor for gaming PCs along with new ray tracing and graphics technologies. In this competitive landscape, Intel plans to share more specific details about its new products for handheld gaming later this year.
