Instagram is developing a feature that helps users find shared interests

Instagram is working on a new feature called “Picks” designed to help users discover common interests with friends. The Meta-owned platform confirmed to TechCrunch that Picks is currently an internal prototype and not yet available for external testing.

The feature was first uncovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who frequently identifies unreleased features during development. Based on shared screenshots, users will be able to select their favorite movies, books, TV shows, games, and music as their “Picks.” Instagram will then highlight overlaps with friends who share similar interests.

While Instagram has not provided official details, the company likely sees Picks as a way to foster deeper connections and spark conversations around shared passions. Earlier this year, Instagram head Adam Mosseri emphasized the platform’s focus on creativity and connection in 2025, stating plans to enhance messaging, make content more interactive, and explore new ways for users to engage with friends.

However, not all users may welcome the addition of Picks, as Instagram continues to expand features in an already crowded app. The platform recently faced criticism following the launch of Instagram Map, with many users expressing dissatisfaction with the feature.

As with any feature in development, it remains unclear if or when Instagram will officially release Picks.
