Hinge is changing how it handles rule-breaking content on user profiles. Instead of immediately banning an entire account for a single violation, the app will now flag and remove only the specific offending content. Your profile will remain active but will be hidden from the discovery feed until you make the necessary changes.
The company will notify you about the issue through an email, a push notification, and a message within the app. This message will explain why your content was flagged, giving you a chance to update your profile.
Content that can be flagged includes offensive, pornographic, violent, or discriminatory material. It also includes content that promotes illegal activities, causes harm to individuals, attempts to sell services or promote businesses, or displays images of others without their consent, including minors without parental permission.
Hinge states that this update is focused on making its guidelines clearer and giving well-meaning users an opportunity to correct their profiles while keeping the platform safe. According to Jeff Dunn, Hinge’s chief risk officer, this approach delivers on a commitment to greater transparency and helps users understand the policies so they can focus on making meaningful connections.
The company does caution that users who repeatedly violate the terms of service will still face account bans.
