Cybercriminals have stolen a massive trove of sensitive documents from the Los Angeles Police Department and leaked the data online. The breach exposed police officer personnel files, internal affairs investigations, and discovery documents containing unredacted criminal complaints, witness names, and medical data. Transparency group Distributed Denial of Secrets, which now hosts the data, states the extortion gang World Leaks is responsible. The LAPD confirms it is investigating, noting the breach did not target its own systems but a digital storage system belonging to the LA City Attorney’s Office. The leak reportedly involves 7.7 terabytes of data and over 337,000 files, representing a stunning breach of typically private police records. World Leaks, active since early 2025, has previously targeted healthcare, manufacturing, and technology organizations.
