Hacker used a voice phishing attack to steal Cisco customers’ personalinformation

A cybercriminal deceived a Cisco representative into granting them access to steal personal information from Cisco.com users, the company revealed on Tuesday. Cisco discovered the breach on July 24 and attributed it to a voice phishing or “vishing” call. The hackers accessed and exported basic profile details from a third-party cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) system.

The stolen data included customer names, organization names, addresses, Cisco-assigned user IDs, email addresses, phone numbers, and account-related metadata such as creation dates. Cisco did not disclose the number of affected users. When contacted, spokesperson Carro Halpin declined to provide further details.

This incident may be part of a broader trend of attacks targeting Salesforce data, as seen with other major companies like U.S. insurance provider Allianz Life, luxury retailer Tiffany and Co., and Australian airline Qantas. Cisco is a known Salesforce customer.

The story has been updated to include Cisco’s response.
