Google’s Personal Intelligence feature is expanding to all US users

Google announced on Tuesday that it is expanding access to its Personal Intelligence feature to all users in the United States. This feature allows its AI assistant to provide tailored responses by connecting information across your Google ecosystem, including Gmail and Google Photos. Previously, Personal Intelligence was only available to paid users.

The feature is now available within AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome. Personal Intelligence is designed to help users find specific information without needing to provide extensive context. For example, you could search for a particular brand of sneakers you previously purchased or plan a family vacation based on your past hotel confirmations and travel photos.

Google emphasizes that Personal Intelligence is off by default. Users have the option to choose if and when they want to connect their Google apps to these services.

The feature enables more contextual assistance. If you are at a tire shop and cannot remember your car’s tire size, any AI chatbot might help determine it. However, with Personal Intelligence, Gemini could go further by suggesting all-weather tires after recognizing family road-trip photos in your Google Photos.

In another scenario, while planning a vacation, AI Mode could draw on your hotel booking from Gmail and past travel memories from Google Photos to suggest a tailored itinerary. This might include recommendations like an old-time ice cream parlor based on ice cream selfies stored in your photos.

For shopping, if you are looking for a new bag to match recently purchased shoes, Personal Intelligence in Chrome could show a range of options tailored to your recent purchases and preferred styles. Recommendations might include subtle details, such as purses with hardware that complements your new gold shoes.

Google states that Gemini does not train directly on the contents of your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. Instead, it trains on specific prompts entered into Gemini or AI Mode and the model’s responses to those prompts.

Personal Intelligence is available immediately in the U.S. for AI Mode in Search. It is also beginning to roll out in the Gemini app and Gemini in Chrome for free-tier users in the U.S. These experiences are only available for personal Google accounts and not for Workspace business, enterprise, or education users.
