Google’s new AI feature lets you virtually try on clothes

Google announced on Thursday the launch of a new AI feature that allows users to virtually try on clothes. The company is also introducing updated price alerts and previewed an upcoming feature that will enable users to explore shoppable outfits and room design inspiration using generative imagery.

The virtual try-on feature officially launches today in the United States, two months after Google began testing it. Users can now upload a full-length photo of themselves to see how clothing items look on their own bodies. The feature is available across Google Search, Google Shopping, and product results on Google Images. To use it, users simply tap on a product listing, select the “try it on” icon, and upload their photo. They can then save and share their virtual looks.

While Google has previously offered virtual try-on technology, earlier versions displayed clothing on diverse models. This new feature personalizes the experience by allowing users to see how clothes fit their own body shape.

Google has been expanding its investments in virtual try-on technology. Last month, the company introduced an experimental app called Doppl, which uses AI to visualize outfits on users and even generates videos to show how clothing moves in real life. A Google spokesperson explained that while both features use the same generative AI technology, Doppl is designed for users to explore their personal style more deeply.

In addition to virtual try-on, Google is rolling out enhanced price alerts. Shoppers in the U.S. can now set alerts for specific products, specifying their preferred size, color, and desired price. Google will notify users when an item matching their criteria becomes available.

Later this fall, Google will introduce another feature focused on outfit and room design inspiration. Users will be able to generate style ideas, such as finding a green flowy dress for a garden party or getting bedroom decor suggestions. The feature will use Google’s vision match technology to create visual options and connect them to relevant products from the Shopping Graph.

These updates reflect Google’s continued efforts to enhance the online shopping experience with AI-powered tools.
