Google will now let you pick your top sources for search results

Google is rolling out a new feature called “Preferred Sources” in the U.S. and India. This feature allows users to select their favorite news sites and blogs to appear in the Top Stories section of Google’s search results. By enabling it, users will see more content from the sources they prefer.

When searching for a topic, users will notice a star icon next to the Top Stories section. Tapping this icon lets them add preferred sources by searching for them. After selecting sources, refreshing the results will display more content from those chosen outlets. Google also mentioned that for some queries, a separate “From your sources” section may appear below Top Stories.

While this feature helps users get news from trusted sources, it may also limit exposure to diverse viewpoints, potentially trapping them in an ideological bubble. Initially launched as an experimental feature in Search Labs, users had to opt in to try it. During testing, more than half of participants selected four or more sources. Now, Google is making it available to all users for English language searches in the U.S. and India.
