Google quietly releases an offline-first AI dictation app on iOS

Google has quietly released a new offline-first dictation app for iOS called Google AI Edge Eloquent. This free app competes with services like Wispr Flow and SuperWhisper. It uses downloaded Gemma-based speech recognition models for local transcription. As you speak, it shows a live transcript and automatically removes filler words like “um” when you pause. You can then transform the text with options like “Key points” or “Formal.” The app can process audio entirely on your device by turning off cloud mode. It also allows you to import specialized terms from Gmail or add custom words. While currently iOS-only, its description hints at a future Android version with system-wide keyboard integration. This release places Google into the growing market of AI-powered dictation tools.
