Google Photos users on Android can now edit their photos by talking to ortexting the AI

Android users can now edit their photos using artificial intelligence. Google announced this new feature for Google Photos on Tuesday. The tool allows users to speak or type instructions in natural language to describe the edits they want to make.

This feature is designed to simplify photo editing by eliminating the need to navigate complex menus or understand specific editing tools. It is powered by Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence. The capability first became available to owners of the new Pixel 10 devices in the United States following their introduction in August.

To use the feature, you tap the “Help me edit” option within the photo editor and then describe the change you want to see. For those unsure where to start, the AI provides suggestions or you can simply tell it to “make it better” for an automatic improvement.

The AI can handle a wide range of edits. This includes basic adjustments like lighting changes, as well as more advanced tasks such as removing distracting objects from the background or restoring old photographs. It also allows for creative edits, adding fantastical AI-generated elements to images. As you edit, Gemini understands follow-up requests, allowing you to fine-tune the results.

The AI editing feature is currently available to users aged 18 and older in the United States and supports the English language.

Alongside this editing tool, Google also announced support for C2PA Content Credentials in Google Photos. This technology identifies when images have been created or altered using AI. This functionality was also first launched on Pixel devices and is now expanding to more Android users.
