Google now lets you direct avatars through prompts in its Vids app

Google’s video editor app, Vids, just got a major update. New features let you direct and customize AI avatars using simple text prompts. You can tell an avatar to interact with a product or scene, and it maintains consistent character appearance. The update also integrates the Veo 3.1 video generation model, allowing users to create eight-second clips directly in the tool. Everyone gets 10 free generations monthly, with higher limits for premium accounts. You can now export finished videos directly to YouTube as private drafts for review. A new Chrome extension enables screen recording with audio. This follows earlier additions like Lyria music models, cartoon avatars, and expanded voiceover languages. Google Vids competes with tools like Synthesia and HeyGen.
