Google Meet launches an AI-powered makeup feature

Google Meet now includes an AI-powered makeup filter for days when you do not feel like applying real makeup before a meeting. This new capability helps Google Meet compete with other video-conferencing applications that already offer virtual makeup features, such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

Users can choose from twelve different makeup options located in the Appearance section under Portrait touch-up. The Portrait touch-up feature itself has been available since 2023, providing users with options like complexion smoothing, under-eye lightening, and eye whitening.

A notable aspect of the virtual makeup is that it stays in place regardless of how the user moves on-screen, creating a more authentic appearance. For example, if a user drinks coffee, the filter remains on their face and does not shift to the mug.

The feature is disabled by default and can be activated by the user either before or during a video call. Once a makeup style is applied, Google Meet will remember your preferences for future meetings. This new AI-powered feature began its rollout on October 8 for mobile and web platforms.
