Google announced on Friday that it is enhancing the editing experience for videos in Drive. A new shortcut button now provides direct access to Vids, the company’s AI-powered video creation tool. This feature allows Workspace users to start editing a video with Vids directly from the Google Drive interface.
When previewing a video in Drive, users will see an “Open” button in the top right corner. Clicking this button opens the video directly in the Vids application. Vids then automatically launches the selected video file for further editing. Users can perform actions like trimming the clip, adding music, and incorporating text.
This new shortcut is activated by default, signaling a closer integration of the Vids app with Google’s broader Workspace suite. Vids was launched last year with the goal of streamlining video production. Its capabilities include generating videos from basic text prompts, automatically crafting scripts, rearranging video clips, and adding transitions.
This update follows the recent introduction of another Gemini AI feature for Workspace users in May. That feature allows users to employ AI to summarize video files stored in Google Drive.
