Google makes it easier to access AI Mode in Chrome on iOS and Android

Google announced on Wednesday that it is making it easier to access AI Mode on mobile. Users will now find a dedicated shortcut button under the search bar when they open a new tab page in Chrome. This button provides direct access to AI Mode, which allows users to ask complex questions and follow-ups to explore topics more deeply within Search.

The new shortcut for AI Mode in Chrome is launching in the United States starting Wednesday and will soon expand to 160 new countries and additional languages. These languages include Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and more. By simplifying access to AI Mode on mobile, Google likely aims to encourage people to use its service instead of turning to competitor tools.

This new shortcut follows Google’s recent global expansion of AI Mode, which brought the feature to 180 new countries. The tech giant also made the feature available in more languages, including Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Google first launched AI Mode in March to compete with popular services like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. Since its introduction, the company has continuously updated the tool with new functions.

Just yesterday, Google launched new agentic capabilities within AI Mode. These capabilities allow users to get help with booking event tickets and beauty and wellness appointments. Google first introduced agentic features to AI Mode back in August, when it rolled out the ability for people to use the feature to find restaurant reservations.

In July, AI Mode launched a Canvas feature. This feature helps users build study plans and organize information over multiple sessions in a side panel. It also now allows users to employ Google Lens to ask questions about what is on their desktop screen.
