Google launches the Pixel 10 series, base model now has three cameras

Google launched its Pixel 10 family of phones, including the Pixel 10, the Pixel 10 Pro, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL, on Wednesday at the company’s Made by Google event. All models are powered by the new Tensor G5 processor. The most significant hardware change is the addition of a triple-camera setup for the standard Pixel 10, a first for the base model. The Pro versions received more iterative updates to their processors and camera sensors.

While the Pixel 9 featured wide and ultra-wide sensors, the Pixel 10 adds a new telephoto lens. This enables 5x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom through Super Res Zoom. The base model includes a 48-megapixel wide sensor with Quad phase detection per pixel for faster and more accurate focus in low light, alongside a 13-megapixel ultrawide sensor.

The Pro models are equipped with a new 50-megapixel wide sensor featuring optical stabilization and Super Res Zoom for video up to 20x. They also have a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and an increased 100x Super Res digital zoom capability.

Screen sizes remain consistent across the lineup. Both the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro have a 6.3-inch display, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL features a 6.8-inch display. Google announced that all devices now have a new Actua display, which reaches up to 3,300 nits of brightness on the Pro models and 3,000 nits on the standard Pixel 10.

Every phone in the series is powered by Google’s new Tensor G5 chip, which is paired with the Titan M2 security chip and a new image processing unit. Google states the new chip delivers a 34% increase in CPU performance and a 60% boost to the Tensor Processing Unit over the previous generation, enabling faster and more advanced AI features.

Google introduced Gemini as the default assistant last year with the Pixel 9, bringing features like Pixel Studio for AI-powered image generation. This year, the company has upgraded Gemini Live to support visual overlays during video calls. This allows the assistant to provide guidance by highlighting specific parts of the screen to show directions or signs.

A new feature called Magic Cue can surface contextual information from across your apps. For example, if you are on a call with an airline, it can automatically pull up your flight details from your email. Similarly, it can find restaurant reservation details while you are chatting with a friend.

Google is also introducing a Gemini-powered camera coach. This feature provides real-time suggestions for framing and composition to help you take better photos directly from the camera interface. Additional new AI features include real-time call translation, transcripts for missed or declined calls through call screening, and integration of Notebook LM with the screenshot app and recorder.

The Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro are priced at $799 and $999 respectively, matching the previous generation. The Pixel 10 Pro XL now starts at $1,199, an increase from its previous starting price of $1,099, and includes 256GB of base storage.
